Engineering design has greatly evolved with the advent of simulation tools and computing power. Simulation software such as Altair HyperWorks suite have enabled virtual design greatly reducing or even replacing physical testings. Process integration tools like ModelCenter from Phoenix Integration have enabled the engineer to automate the execution of the simulation tools and explore complete design spaces instead of searching for the first feasible solution. The large amounts of data that are now being generated can be managed using solutions like SimData Manager from PDTec. This webinar focuses on a prototype integration between these three products. The tools are brought together to enable automated execution of complex simulation processes involving structural analysis and CFD using Altair OptiStruct and AcuSolve solvers with built-in data management and traceability.

The webinar will begin by presenting FluiDyna GmbH and by giving a short introduction to the nanoFluidX (nFX) code. After that the attendees will get a more detailed description of the work flow, emphasizing the ultra-simple pre-processing capabilities of the HyperMesh 14.0.110 and upcoming SimLab 14.2, which allow particle generation with literally three clicks per element. Some details about the solver will also be presented, particularly pointing out the speed up the customer potentially gains in turn-around time for oiling simulations by using nFX on GPU’s. We shall also present the new ParaView 5.0.1 with special SPH features, as well as FieldView version (which should show up by the webinar). It is cost prohibitive to rely on climatic wind tunnel tests in the initial vehicle HVAC system design process. Additionally, the passenger compartment airflow and thermal environment is one in a state of constant change requiring use of transient CFD simulations. In this 45-minutes complimentary session, we will give an overview of Altair’s CFD solution to simulate the airflow in the passenger compartment and include all relevant thermal effects such as convection, conduction and radiation heat transfer in the cabin. The geometry model of the vehicle interior is based on an Altair-developed generic cabin model. This geometry is used to demonstrate the model build and execution process including how to automate the model build process.
